I am retired from the work world and do freelance writing. I have served in the armed forces and worked in various industries. I have worked for both political parties and found them both to be lacking. After watching politics for a long time I came to all new conclusions. This is why I got into survivalism and why I am warning people of the politics of this country. I also am tired of people crying the sky is falling. They are actually saying mankind is causing global warming. Therefore I have taken it upon myself to try to disprove the garbage they are putting out.

Medical Help

As promised in my last posting we are going to take a look at making some of your own health products. I am not going to tell you how to make heart medicine or diabetes medicine or any other pharmaceutical. I will leave that for you to decide. What I am going to do is give you the recipe for several external medicines and a few hints about keeping healthy.

The first med I would like to talk about is an ear medicine. I have been bothered with ear infections all of my life and was tired of going to a doctor who would give me some ear drops and an antibiotic. This gets expensive and you soon become immune to the antibiotic. I made my first batch several years ago and had not even used it when my sister-in-law stated that she had to go to the doctor for an ear infection. this was on a weekend so she would not be able to go to a doctor until Monday and that only if she could get in. I gave her a small bottle of my homemade medicine and told her to try it as I knew it would not hurt her. She called me a couple of days later and told me that her ear infection was completely gone and that she did not have to see a doctor. I will also say that I have not seen a doctor about ear infections in over three years. I catch it early and the infection never really takes hold. So here we go with the very simple method of making the medicine.

Put several handfuls of mullein flowers in a glass jar and cover them with olive oil. Let the mixture steep for seven to ten days. Strain off the flowers and bottle the oil. Use dark brown bottles if at all possible. You can also put some in an empty ear drop bottle or a bottle with a dropper inside. When you feel an ear infection coming on put several drops of this medicine in your ear and place a piece of cotton ball in your ear to hold the oil in. The mullein in the medicine is the thing that heals the infection. You can use this to soften ear wax as it is olive oil based. the olive oil will soften the wax and the mullein will not cause a problem.

Next lets make a salve. This is an excellent salve on bruises and scratches. I even use it on my psoriasis. While it does not eliminate the psoriasis, it works as well as the salves they sell especially to use on psoriasis, and it is a lot cheaper.

2 oz. dried comfrey root, 2 oz. dried oak bark and 5 or 6 plantain leaves (fresh or dried). put these in saucepan and cover with 1 1/2 cups olive oil and simmer for 45 minutes. Put into glass jar and cap tightly. Let sit for ten days, shaking once daily. Strain back into saucepan add two tablespoons lard and two tablespoons bees wax. Heat until lard and wax is melted stirring to keep mixed. Pour into containers to cool and set. Apply liberally to bruises, scratches and scrapes.

The third and final med for this post is for a lineament. This works good on strained muscles and other tired parts of the body. I have used it on my back, my legs and my arms and it does a decent job of relieving the pain and soreness.

one 48 ounce container of 91% isopropyl alcohol, four ounces of dried cayenne pepper, one ounce of dried echinacea root and two ounces of dried oak bark. Put all ingredients into a two quart glass jar and let sit for two weeks. Shake jar several times during the two weeks. Strain the juice into glass bottles and you are ready to go.

There you have three medicines that you can make and keep on hand. I will get into more on herbs and herb teas and other uses in the next entry. Lord willing and the creek don't rise that will be in two weeks. Until then, as always check out my political blog and my store.

Ready? II

As I stated in the last post, it is time to get ready for a number of possibilities. Last time I talked about hyper-inflation. this time I would like to create a different scenario. I am thinking about class warfare. Right now our pretendsident is creating class envy. He is also using race as a wedge. the Tea Party is being called racist and they are the farthest thing from it. All of this by B.O. and his lap-dog media is to further drive a wedge between different classes and races in this country. I hope it does not come to a head that causes a type of civil war, but I am leery of it anyway.

What I would like to talk about this week is practicing with your firearms. I believe that regular practice sessions with your firearms is very important. I feel that all weapons, but handguns especially, should be practiced with at least once per week. I happen to be one of the fortunate people that have a range on my own property. I have found that with a handgun if you do not keep in continuous practice you soon lose the ability to hit what you are shooting at. If you are practicing for self-defense, you will need to do most of your practicing at close range. I do a lot of mine at five yards. This will cover most indoor self-defense scenarios. For outdoor confrontations you may want to do some practice out to twenty-five yards. I began my practice at five yards. I do not move out to ten yards until I can hit the five yard targets wit great regularity. Remember, in a life and death struggle, close is not good enough.

that is one scenario. Another is the fact that some of bin Laden's followers may want to take revenge on this country because of our killing of him. Once again, it pays to be prepared by getting your marksmanship tuned up. If nothing happens (that is what we all hope for) you will have had a great time shooting and getting in some target practice. If you are a hunter, and we all should be if we are real survivalists, the extra practice with various weapons will help you keep your freezer full of meat.

As much as possible, whenever you shoot up a box of ammo replace it as soon as possible. What you may want to do is what I do. I shoot up two boxes of ammo and then replace it with three boxes. that way I am always adding to my ammo supply. Even then, I probably do not have nearly as big a supply as I should have.

I am going to cut this entry short as there is much I could say but am not ready to say it yet. Being a survivalist is a good lifestyle if it is done right. I have many other things besides just weapons and things like that. As I have stated at other times I believe a good survivalist should hunt, fish, gather wild plants and anything else that they can do to provide for themselves and their loved ones. Next time in this space I am going to talk about making a few of your own medicines. I currently am making some and will be doing more in the future. I will be back here in two weeks (I hope) but until then next week I will be doing my other blog, check that one out and check out my web store.
