Time to Invest

I know that I have been off on a couple of tangents the last couple of weeks, but that is what survivalism is all about; being prepared for anything and changing course any time it is necessary. I am not really changing course, it is just that I believe a couple of things have become important.

First, there is silver. This past week silver on the spot market was hovering between thirteen and fourteen dollars an ounce. Anyone with even a little bit of money to invest should jump into the silver market right now. Anytime that silver is below twenty dollar an ounce, it is a super good deal. Under fifteen dollars is almost too good to be true. Other that the fact that the big bankers have been manipulating the price of silver and gold, silver would probably be about twenty-five dollars an ounce right now. I do not believe that they can keep the price down forever. I am buying as much as possible right now according to how much money I have to spare. Remember, when buying silver, buy the physical product and take delivery of it. Silver stocks are OK if you have a lot of extra cash, but silver coins and silver bars are what I recommend. Buy rolls or bags of non-numismatic coins dated 1964 or before and if you cannot find enough of the coins, buy silver bars. I have limited myself to one ounce bars. The only problem with buying silver is the problem of storage. In my book "Stash It" I cover many ways of hiding things. Anyone who would be interested in that book can just leave a comment at the end of the article and I will get back to you, as I do have several copies on hand. I also have several copies of my book "Sensible Survival Investing" on hand should anyone be interested. Just remember, I do not feel that the bankers can hold the price down forever and I buy any time silver is below twenty dollars and I have a little extra cash. I have been investing in silver for over thirty years and have sold and made money a couple of times and have never lost money on my investment.

The second thing I would like to talk about today is land. Any of you who are looking for a place to bug out to when the ship hits the sand or anyone who would like to buy a place far from a large city and move now, now is the time to do so. The real estate market is in the toilet and there are a lot of places for sale. I live in an area where there are a lot of vacation homes and there are a lot of for sale signs around the area. A lot of the people who have these vacation homes also have an adjustable mortgage on their primary residence. That means that they are trying to sell the vacation home top be able to keep up the payments on the primary residence. Another problem for them is the price of fuel to drive up here to get use of their property. Many of them live two to three hundred miles from here and getting here is no longer cheap. I see many properties around here where people used to come up three or four times a year at least and now have not been here at all this year. The places I see for sale range from vacant land to mobile homes to some nice year-round homes. If other areas are the same as here, this is the time to buy. I also know several real estate agents and they tell me sales are slow. That means that you can probably get the price down even farther than it already is. I would be careful not to get into debt too much with buying property. However, if you have been thinking about the possibility of moving or buying bug out property and you have the means to do so, I would say that there may never be a better time.

When you make an offer on a home or land, always make it considerably less than the asking price. My rule of thumb is to knock off ten percent if the price is less than $100,000 and twenty percent if the price is over $100,000. Thus on property with an asking price of $75,000 I would put in and offer of $67,500. On a property listed at $125,000 the offer would be $100,000. All they can do is to say no and usually they will put out a counter offer. In my life I have purchased five primary dwellings and three bug out properties and while I never got them for the first offer I made, I always got them for a lot less than the asking price.

These are the two things that I believe are important for all survivalists right now. With a presidential election coming up, it is hard to predict what is going to happen. I still am not sure an election will even happen. If B. Hussein O. happens to win, grab your butt with both hands and hang on, you will be glad you prepared.

It May Be Time

Things are not looking too good right now. It may be time to be ready to either hunker down and live of the land where you are or it may be time to get ready to move out. Take a look around you and you can probably see what I mean. The economy is in the toilet, the politicians are arguing about nothing, gasoline is still over $3.75 a gallon, the dollar is going up right now and gold and silver are going down. The stock market goes the opposite way it should. Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac report that they lost millions of dollars and the stock market jumped a couple of hundred points. In normal times the stock market should have dropped. My thoughts are is that the government and big business are setting us up for a big drop.

It looks like there will be a war with Iran in the near future. One of the largest flotillas ever put together is either in or headed for the gulf to blockade Iran. This is not going to sit well with Russia or China, as both of them depend on Iran for trade. This whole idea could set off world war III. I am not the only one that is thinking that way, there are other writers on the web that agree with everything I say. If Israel is going to attack Iran they will want to do it now in case B. Hussein O. becomes president. He may not want to go to their assistance if needed. George W. Shrub would be only too glad to go to war for Israel as he feels that we should take down Iran anyway. Russia is already fighting in their former ally Georgia. Georgia has troops in Iraq and are now going to pull them out. This will leave us even shorter on manpower there. Afghanistan is not going well and we need more troops there. With all of this going on, we have a senator or two that have stated that Iran has committed an act of war and we should invade.

If all of this comes to pass, there is going to be warfare on US soil too. There will be terrorist attacks that will make 9/11 look like a holiday. When that happens, look for martial law to be declared. As anyone that has been following my blogs knows, I have been predicting this for some time. Now other writers are getting on the bandwagon. By declaring martial law many things could happen. Once martial law is declared the constitution is forgotten. While even now politicians do not pay much attention to the constitution they at least give it lip service. With martial law, even that will go by the wayside. This is exactly what the faciunists want, because they will be able to take over the country, (they think). All elections can be cancelled and Shrub could become dictator for life.

Like I stated, it may be time to hunker down or be ready to move. If you already live out in the boonies, you may want to get ready for whatever comes your way. Food, guns, ammo, water and anything else that you need to survive. You may need to protect yourself and your loved ones from all types of scum. If you live in a city, make yourself ready to move out at a moments notice. Even better if you can get out before it starts that would be better. If you have to stay, keep your things packed and ready to go. You may want to check back to my last several writings to see what to do to get ready. We may need a years worth of food on hand, it is hard to tell. It depends on how good a gardener you are and how good a hunter or fisherman. Now is the time to go back through everything I have written on this blog and see what you need to do. Once you have all your necessities in order, if you have any money left, buy silver.
